Over the past two and a half years, about two dozen tournaments with the participation of junior players have been held in Russia, including three championships. As of the end of 2024, juniors make up a quarter of the SBR Mahjong player roster.
Today, young players have conquered a new peak — playing on automatic tables.

The SBR Mahjong Tournament for Beginners "Mahjong Festival 2024-11" was held November 23, 2024 in Moscow at the Meridian Cultural Center.
28 players from Moscow took part in the tournament. The vast majority of participants, 17 players, played their first tournament!
The idea goes back to the very first event of this kind, held back in June 2022, when a tournament was held immediately after the master class! At the suggestion of the organizer, the master class visitors magically turned into players, for many of them it was an unforgettable experience. The event was called "Mahjong Festival" — a symbiosis of educational and competitive components.
In order to hold a tournament specifically for beginners, it was decided to limit participation to "experienced" players and provide an opportunity to play for players with minimal or no experience at all (the first tournament). The result exceeded the wildest expectations — 28 participants of the "mahjong festival" in November are a clear proof of this. It was decided to explore the possibility and add more dates to the calendar for holding such tournaments.
Vitaly Novikov held his 74th tournament in mahjong, including the 32nd SBR Mahjong Tournament.

New SBR Moscow Open Junior champion Alexander Tishchenko (13 y.o.) got acquainted with SBR mahjong in May 2022. In the 2022-2023 season, he studied in the tournament mahjong club "Tile". Two weeks before the junior championship, he participated in the city tournament "Three Generations" with 24 participants and won it! What is Alexander's secret? The recipe is simple — from October 2022 to September 2024, he did not miss a single tournament held within the walls of the Meridian cultural center in Moscow, that is, he played in all 16 tournaments and championships!
The Russian Mahjong Federation expresses gratitude to the administration of the family club of intellectual games "Panda in the Chest" and personally to Maria Istomina, Svetlana Ermanson, Alexander Istomin, as well as the RMF board representative Vitaly Novikov for organizing and holding the championship.
