But, as it turned out from the greetings sent by the Secretary General of Mahjong International League (MIL) Mr. Li Wenlong, this tournament was the first in the world in this format, i.e. with participation restriction for juniors only.
The first winner of SBR Moscow Open Junior and the first champion of Moscow among juniors is Alexander Tishchenko. This victory turned out to be the best gift for his 12th birthday the day after the championship!
Alexander got acquainted with mahjong six months ago, in May 2022. In June and August, he attended several classes of the Meridian Vacation summer program. Since September, Alexander has been enrolled in the "Tile" mahjong circle in Meridian Cultural Center. Here is how he describes what happened in an impromptu interview:
“I was very happy to participate in this tournament, and even more so to win. It was pleasant and unexpected. Thanks to the organizers of the tournament and the teacher."
Special thanks to the parents of the championship participants! Almost all parents acted as photo and video reporters, and those who know the rules became assistants to the chief referee.
